Shipping and Packing Instructions

The purpose of these instructions is to inform suppliers on how to pack and ship materials to Elbit Systems of America. Product specific packing and shipping requirements may also apply. Please refer to the purchase order for more details.

Preservation and Packing:

Materials must be preserved and packaged to the degree of protection necessary to prevent deterioration or damage during shipment under normal environmental conditions and commercial modes of transportation. Selection of appropriate preservation materials must be based upon their ease of removal and compatibility with the materials to be shipped to Elbit Systems of America. All materials must be packed in a manner that protects against atmospheric deterioration, fungus growth, and electro static discharge (ESD) damage.

All materials must be boxed to the item level of the purchase order in such a manner that the materials can be handled as a unit throughout the distribution cycle and storage. Shipping containers must be uniform in size and must be of minimum tar weight and cube consistent with the protection required. Materials must be packed to secure lowest transportation costs and comply with carrier regulations.

Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order, all materials must be packed and shipped in accordance with best commercial practices.

Cleanliness:

Materials must be free of dirt and other contaminants which would contribute to deterioration of the materials or which would require cleaning prior to use. Coating and preservatives applied to the item for protection are not considered contaminants.

Unit Package Quantity:

Unless otherwise specified on the purchase order, the unit package quantity must be one each part, set, or assembly. Excepted are small lightweight items, for example, industrial hardware, which must be unit packaged in quantities that are standard in the trade and suitable for retail sales. Bulk packaging is specifically excluded unless specified in the purchase order.

Unitization:

Unitization encompasses, but is not limited to, bundling, consolidation in a container, or placement on a pallet. Shipments must be considered for unitization where appropriate or specified. All desired markings must be as specified. All markings must be legible, durable, and identify the contents of the shipment unit.

Hazardous Materials:

Shipments of hazardous materials must be made in compliance with the current issue of the code of Federal Regulations. Each shipment must contain a Hazardous Goods Declaration and a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Marking:

Unless specifically exempted in the purchase order, the following identification information shall be marked on all unit packs, intermediate and external containers:

  • Name and address of manufacturer/repair facility
  • Part number
  • Purchase order number
  • Item description or nomenclature
  • Quantity
  • Serial number (if applicable)
  • Hazardous material (HAZMAT) marking (if applicable)
